Dr Thomas Galliford – Male, Clinical Lead
I am currently the clinical lead of the Department of Endocrinology at West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust and also the Clinical Lead of the Herts Valley Integrated Diabetes service. We are teams that are committed to providing excellent and integrated services to patients with diabetes and endocrine conditions. I have sub-speciality interests in diabetes and endocrine disorders in pregnancy, diabetes in young adults and the use of technology in diabetes. I also have a strong interest in medical education and teaching My undergraduate training was at St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School/Imperial College from where I graduated in 1998 having also completed an intercalated BSc(Hons). I undertook my post-graduate training primarily in London which included a period of research in thyroid disease and metabolic bone disease at the Hammersmith Hospital.
Dr Chantal Kong – Diabetes Consultant
I am strongly committed to providing a personal high quality clinical and professional service to my patients and GP colleagues.
I have a broad-based training in all aspects of general medical conditions, subspecialising in Diabetes and Endocrinology and have worked in a variety of NHS hospitals before moving down to London to join the North West Thames specialty rotation. I spent a large part of my senior training at St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College where I undertook a period of clinical research. I was appointed as Consultant Physician with a specialist interest in Diabetes and Endocrinology at St Albans and Hemel Hempstead in 2003 which later merged into West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and now also work at Watford General Hospital.
I led on setting up a specialist integrated diabetes foot service, championing for proper commissioning and timely access for patients as well as raising awareness and educating healthcare professionals and patients to improve clinical experience and outcomes. I also structured and set up the 2ww referral clinical pathway for thyroid lumps for St Albans and Hemel Hempstead, including video linking with the Luton & Dunstable Hospitals Head & Neck & Thyroid cancer network to ensure patients management were safely peer-reviewed.
I have a strong educational interest and believe passionately in the importance of educating patients and staff to empower them to provide the best clinical care and safeguard patient safety.
Dr Arla Ogilvie is a Consultant Physician with a special interest in diabetes and endocrinology. She undertook specialist training in diabetes and endocrinology in the UK and subsequently through the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Dr Ogilvie spent a period of research into lipid metabolism at the University of Cape Town before taking up her first Consultant post in 1995.
Dr Ogilvie returned to the UK in 1998 and joined the team at Watford General Hospital in August 2002. Her areas of special endocrine interest include the management of thyroid disorders, poly-cystic ovarian syndrome and adolescent diabetes. She has a strong interest in medical education and holds an Honorary clinical Lecturer post with UCL/Royal Free Hospitals Medical School.
Dr Ana Pokrajac MD MSc FRCP – Diabetes Consultant
Dr Pokrajac is a Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine at the West Hertfordshire Hospital Trust, UK. She graduated cum laude and completed an MSc from the University of Belgrade, Serbia. Dr Pokrajac holds Medical Doctorate in Endocrinology from the Manchester University, UK where she also completed her specialty training. She has published and presented nationally and internationally in both fields: endocrinology and diabetes.
Dr Pokrajac is West Herts and Herts Valley CCG lead for diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD). She has special interest in complex diabetes, healthcare system performance and cost-efficiency. She teaches medical students and is an educational supervisor to junior doctors.
Nationally, Dr Pokrajac is a committee member of the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) and an ABCD-Renal Association special interest group core member producing guidelines for management of diabetes and CKD. She was appointed National Clinical Champion with Diabetes UK in 2013. This role was awarded to her for contributions to the integration of diabetes care through education (co-founded Herts Diabetes Education Charity) and work on improved and shared standards of patient care. With Diabetes UK she has worked on legalisation and standards by presenting the evidence to the All Party Parliamentary Group for Diabetes. She is an elected Fellow of Royal College of Medicine (London).
Dr Pawan Pulsakar – Diabetes Consultant
I am a consultant in Acute Medicine and Endocrinology. My specialty work involves doing weekly endocrine clinics at Hemel, diabetes and diabetic foot clinics at Watford and community diabetes clinics.
I live locally with my wife and 2 children. I am passionate about wildlife and photography and pursue these interests in my spare time. I regularly follow Chelsea Football Club and watch tennis and cricket.
